I am honored to serve as the President of the Richmond (VA) Chapter of The Links, Incorporated as we Celebrate 70 years of Distinguished Service to the Community. Our chapter is a member of an international, not-for-profit corporation, established in 1946. The membership consists of more than 17,000 professional women of African descent in 299 chapters located in 41 states, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of the Bahamas, and the United Kingdom. It is one of the nation’s oldest and largest volunteer service organizations of extraordinary women who are committed to enriching, sustaining and ensuring the culture and economic survival of African Americans and other persons of African ancestry.

I am reminded that “No one can whistle a symphony. It takes a whole orchestra to play it” and “If everyone is moving forward together, then success takes care of itself.” Sustaining our vibrancy as an organization is tied to the unwavering support of our distinguished members who standout for their extraordinary achievements within and outside of our organization. They are professionals and leaders in health, education, banking, law, government and other industries,  Members stand on values of friendship, integrity, honesty, service, commitment, family relationships, courage, respect for self and others, legacy, confidentiality, responsibility, and accountability. We are able to reach and work on behalf of those in need through our five facets which include Services to Youth, The Arts, National Trends and Services, International Trends and Services and Health and Human Services.

Our chapter’s strategic plan is invaluable in keeping us focused and serving as a guidepost for sustaining a vibrant future where our organization consistently steps up to the plate to respond to those in need, whether individuals or organizations. Our chapter has invested substantially in organizations throughout the Richmond Region providing financial support. Among the beneficiaries are the Black History Museum and Cultural Center of Virginia, Virginia Union University, the Fisher House, the Virginia Museum and Fine Arts, FeedMore and more. We too are very proud of our partnership with Richmond Public Schools through our FMA² Program with Franklin Military Academy. We have helped female students to exceed academically and provided them with a wealth of skills they need to navigate their life’s journey.  These students are leaders of tomorrow and noteworthy is that students from Cohort I of the program are excelling in colleges, universities and professional schools.

The Richmond Chapter of The Links Incorporated is able to accomplish much by being good stewards of the monies provided by our sponsors and members for our programs, particularly our signature “Art in the Atrium” Biennial Art Auction held at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts. Our 11th Biennial Art Auction will be held on Saturday, March 18, 2023 and our Honorary Co-Chairs are Dr. Pamela K. Royall and Mr. Moses Foster.

We understand that our chapter’s success is a result of preparation and hard work along with our passion for service. We have proven that we use what we have and do what they can. We always look forward to what can be and we take steps daily to reach positive outcomes.
